Meet Our New Teachers!

CCA is excited to introduce new teachers to our team this year! Join us in making them feel welcome…

Ajai Brown – Middle School English Language Arts

I’m Ajai Brown and I am proud to call Cornerstone Christian Academy my new home. This is my first year teaching, and I am excited to go on this new journey with all of you. I received my B.A in psychology from Bennett College for Women, and now have a M.A in elementary education from Grand Canyon University. Teaching is definitely a passion of mine. I have always loved helping others learn and grow. This year, my goal is that all my students become lovers of reading, stronger writers, and have a deeper relationship with God. When I am not teaching, I enjoy helping out in our community. I volunteer with children in the foster care system on the weekends, and I am also one of the youth ministry leaders at the church that my father pastors. During my free time, my son Ashton and I love to read, paint, and play Power Rangers.

Kaitlyn-ArnoldKaitlyn Arnold – 2nd Grade

Degrees and Certification: B.S. – Elementary Education, Ministry/Biblical Studies; ESOL Endorsement from Corban University.

I am thrilled to be joining the Cornerstone team this year! I have had the privilege to teach 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grade, and am excited to return to 2nd grade. While earning my degree from Corban University, I was given the chance to teach in both public and private education. During my time in Salem, I had the opportunity to serve as an AWANA co-director for several years, and participate in several leadership roles, including student government positions, as well as leading two mission trips to Czech Republic. While there, the team worked with elementary and middle school students developing their English skills. After countless games of Monopoly and Uno, many questions about my favorite TV show and color, as well as learning Czech PE games, I was able to see that working with children, whether inside or outside of the classroom, is truly what God has commanded me to do. On a more personal note, I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, until moving out to Brush Prairie, WA with my family in 2008. After moving to a very rural part of Washington, my love and desire for the outdoors grew exponentially. When I am not reading or teaching, you can find me hiking, kayaking, and sometimes even climbing any number of places around Washington.

Jillian-HeadshotJillian Cain – 3rd Grade

My name is Jillian Cain and I am so grateful to join the Cornerstone Christian Academy community. I can’t wait to meet the students and families that I get to work with this year. Over the past 5 years, I have taught in both public and private schools in the northern Puget Sound area. Recently, my husband and I were led to move to Vancouver to embark on a new journey in life. We are excited to make this place our home and see what the Lord has planned for us here. When I am not teaching, I enjoy walking trails with my two large dogs, lifting weights, and spending time with my husband, friends, and family. As an educator, I strive to create a positive learning environment in which my students can grow in all areas and that cultivates a passion for learning and citizenship with everything centered around Christ.

Tristan-NorrisTristan Norris – 5th Grade

Degrees and Certifications: Masters of Education, Azusa Pacific University
Bachelors of Arts, Biblical/Theological Studies major, Pastoral Ministries minor, Multnomah University

Mr. Norris is passionate about developing and inspiring students to be their best selves, and to lead them towards Christ. He graduated from Multnomah University with his BA in Biblical/Theological Studies, and minored in Pastoral Ministries. He then received his Masters of Education at Azusa Pacific University. The foundation for his teaching philosophy is to focus on holistic student learning; in order for students to reach their full potential, they need to be inspired in all areas of their development. He is also passionate about faith integration: The truth of Scripture is not outside of other learning subjects, it’s woven throughout the truths of them. In his free time, Mr. Norris loves spending time with his wonderful wife, two young boys, and very large white dog. Going on bike rides, playing in their backyard pool, and Sabbathing on weekends are the highlights of time with his family. Before you ask, Mr. Norris is 6’5″, and no, he does not play basketball. However, he’s a huge Portland Timbers fan, and deeply loves the Pacific Northwest culture, especially coffee…lots and lots of coffee.

Karen-JuarezKaren Juarez – Music

Blessed to have been born into a Christian home in Kansas, Mrs. Juarez was raised in Albuquerque, NM, and has lived in Nebraska and Texas. She has sung and played instruments since childhood. She and Jerry, married 41 years, raised 3 boys and followed their 6 grandkids up here last year. A retired music teacher, she’s certified and experienced with preschoolers to adults in several curricular areas. While teaching music on the NM/Mexico border, she organized musical events and developed appreciation for Mexican music (including mariachi and ballet folklorico). Speaks Spanish. She not only helps her church band but sings with Bravo! Vancouver and has begun conducting choirs with Blueprint Arts Ensembles in Portland. She’s looking forward to working with the CCA family.
